God is at Work

Sometimes certain things happen and you just know that God is moving… this week was filled with moments like that. Wednesday’s girls group was nothing like what we expected. With all the prayer and preparation we are putting into the retreat, we decided that this week would be more of a relaxed week with more time to play games and hang out with the kids followed by a short discussion but nothing too intense. God obviously had other plans. After a relaxed but good discussion about how God is like a judge, I ‘closed’ by saying “Does anyone else have any other questions?” Well, one girl asked a question about what would happen to people who don’t believe in Jesus and one question led to another and next thing you know we were in the middle of an intense, hour-long discussion about whether or not Jesus truly is the only way to God and what that means for our friends who don’t believe in Him. Each girl there was participating with great interest and, as always, my 9-12 year old girls were asking deeper questions than many adults. God clearly knew what was going to happen that day as it was the only week that our two Muslim girls weren’t there which allowed us to discuss openly and in the end, many of the girls left with a greater conviction that Jesus really is the one true God and a greater desire to share Jesus with their friends.
In the later half of the week, I had one-on-ones with three different girls and it was clear that Wednesday’s discussion had truly impacted them as our conversation just continued to build on what we had discussed at girls’ group. God really allowed me to go deep with these girls and to ask hard questions such as, “Why do you believe in Jesus?”, “Do you believe that Jesus is the only way to God?”, “How do you know that you are right?”, etc. The girls took our discussion seriously and took time to ponder their answers and I was so blessed by the responses they came up with – “I believe in Jesus because I feel Him in my soul”, “I realize now that there can’t be more than one true God”, “I don’t know why Jesus is right but I’m reading my bible and praying more and asking God to show me”… There is no question that God is at work in the lives of these girls and I am just so grateful to be along for the ride.

Since we are leaving for camp on Thursday, this week's girls’ group will be on Tuesday. The Topic: God is like a Listener –you can talk to Him. Please pray that God would use this topic to prepare the girls’ hearts for the retreat and that they would be able to pour their hearts out to Him knowing that He hears them.

If you are interested in praying for one of our girls during the retreat it's not too late!
Just comment below or e-mail me at andreag@montrealyouthunlimited.org
and I will match you up with one of the girls who will be attending.
